Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the trail start?
The school scarecrow is number one on the trail and is located at the school gates (ME9 7ES) but you can walk the trail in any order you lke.
Where can I park?
there is usually room to park on that part of School Lane (ME9 7ET). Please be considerate to residents when parking and don't park in the school access road. Alternatively, there is usually room to park near to the entrance to the Brickfield at the end of Lapwing Drive.
Where can I buy the activity sheet?
The activity sheet can be purchased for a small fee (£2 per family). A link to purchase will be added soon.
It's a good idea to download and print out before you leave the house. Alternatively you can view the sheet on your phone.
Is the trail buggy friendly?
Yes, the trail has been arranged so that there is always a pavement to walk on so it is buggy friendly. There are some unmade footpaths in the village that can get muddy when the weather is wet but these can be avoided if needed.
Can I bring my dog?
Lower Halstow is dog friendly and you are welcome to bring your dog (on a lead). Please follow the rules of good dog etiquette and please clean up after your dog.
How long does the trail take to walk?
We estimate that the trail can be comfortably walked in one hour. Of course this depends on your speed of walking and how long you spend looking at each scarecrow. If you have less time, or young children who can't walk too far, then feel free to just walk a part of the trail.
Is there anywhere to stop for a drink or food?
Yes, The Three Tuns (one of our sponsors) is family friendly and makes delicious food. It can be located on The Street in Lower Halstow. Stop off for a meal or drinks. It does get quite busy during scarecrow week so it's worth phoning ahead to book a table if you plan to have a meal. Please note they are closed on Tuesdays. There is also a village shop.
How do I make a donation?
Thank you for making a donation. All money raised goes to help the children of Lower Halstow School. Donations can be made by hitting the button below. Alternatively, if you prefer to donate in person, there will be donation points in the village, at the Three Tuns and also the village shop. Thank you for your support.

Feedback from previous years
"We had so much fun on this trail.. my eldest was in charge of the map and ticked off all barring maybe 2 or 3 houses.
The scarecrows all looked great but the room on the broom witches and meg mog and owl were our fav!
We will be donating online and hope this becomes a yearly tradition for us!"
ABOUT
The scarecrow trail was originally run by the Lower Halstow School PTA. But then our children did what children do, got older and moved onto secondary school. So a new community group was formed so that we could continue to run the trail.
The trail is still raising funds for Lower Halstow Primary School, to provide facilities, equipment and materials to support the school and enhance the education of the pupils.
Please enjoy.... and don't forget to donate!
